My study on earrings-

I've been going back and forth on if I should get earrings or not. I don't think that you'll go to Hell if your ears are pierced, but if it would displease Jesus in any way, I wouldn't want to do it!! So I decided I would study it out! But I'm not going to set rules on what is and is not, in fact, God did not even set rules. He gave us Biblical precepts. I think we are to learn these precepts, and learn to apply them to each particular case as God's Spirit and our pure conscience gives us leadership. (and could you say '50 tabs open at once' ! ) Please if you have any opinions about this topic, PLEASE share with me! I'm all ears!!!!

{please do not feel offended if whatever I end up on deciding... I could still be wrong! Please tell me your thoughts!}

The first verse I wanted to look up, was Leviticus 19:28, and one that I have wondered about. I have read it, but people seem to stop this verse before the last phrase. Read this:

Leviticus 19:28 -  Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead-  BOOM! Other people almost always seem to stop that verse, at- in your flesh- and think that that is saying to not pierce your ears. But I don't think it is. People actually do make incisions in their skin, in mourning the dead. Crazy right?? So yeah..I don't think that is contributing to "you shouldn't pierce your ears!!!" ! But what do you think?

Does the Bible ever say that wearing jewelry is a sin? - from my research, no it does not. There's also this thorough research wrote out here: (just keep scrolling and reading and you'll see it.)  = )

Onto Ezekiel!! If you want you can grab your Bibles, or pull up Blue letter Bible, because I'm not sure I'll type every verse out..but I may put the reference and then a remark. :)

(I hope this isn't getting boring! :p )

Eze 16:1- And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, (so by that we know that the Lord is speaking here )
Eze 16:12-And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thy ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head. so that sounded approving of earrings! :)

be an example of Sarah\\
My Mom is totally the most awesome thing evah, and really helped me out on this subject.
As my Mom quotes- The reason I believe that wearing earrings is 100% fine, is beacuase of what it says about Sarah, in the Bible. She wore earrings and jewelry, and the Bible tells us to strive to be like her as much as you can! Obviously if wearing earrings was a sin, God would not have instructed us to try and be like her. Sarah also gave earrings and jewelry to her daughters.
And..there you have that. To me that's pretty huge! And my [wonderful] Mother will search things out and not make a decision until she feels it is completely right.
{{smiles}}

1 Tim 2:9- In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel , with shamefacedness, and sobriety: not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.
-I think the point here is leaning more to the "costly array" part. No gold, pearls, broided hair, or costly array. That's pretty simple to me. Because it's hard to find pure gold and real pearls and so on. I would consider it wrong to try to look better then others by wearing expensive clothes, jewelry, etc.. But again, what do you think?

CONCLUSION: Does the Bible permit the wearing of jewelry? My answer is, yes! I truly believe that it does. However, I do not think that  you should take it to the extreme, or let it take your eyes off God.

Sooo, this means I'll be getting earrings sometime in the near future!!! I'm excited about it because I feel sure now, that if I put a tiny hole through my ears, that I won't regret it!!

what are your beliefs about jewelry?
                                                                       do you wear earrings?

p.s
I'm sorry about the white behind the first like 2 paragraphs. :/ I've tried everything to make it look normal, even re wrote it several times, but I couldn't. I hope it's not distracting, and that you made it to the end of this post!!! Thanks for reading!

It's not wrong for Christian girls to wear pierced earrings. None of us wear them in our family. As my Grandpa says "if God wanted holes in your ears(lobes), he would have made them." So we've never done it ... Not just because he said that, but we don't *want* to get them. Me and my mom wear clip-ons. The only thing I dislike about pierced, is that you have to wear them every day, or the little hole starts closing. And I don't wear clips every day, so that would really bother me! :)

There's no major reason, but I kind of recommend clips!

    There you go, my opinion!

    1. Thanks for this comment Rosalyn!
I think that instead of craeting us with lobes, He gave us a choice, just like God did with so many other things in the Bible! :)
You don't have to wear them everyday. Just at the start you do. :) But I guess it could depend too.
And it seems kind of hard to find pretty clip-ons. All I've seen of those are the little girls clip-ons.
Thanks so much for your opinion!!

I get my clip-ons from Claire's...they always have a huge range for older girls, along with little girls ones. :)

I agree with Paige ... It's not wrong to wear jewelry, but we need to be careful how much we are wearing. Keeping our heart godly is a needed aspect, but when we wear jewelry, are we wearing it to impress people? Don't get me wrong, I need to work on this area as well. :)

I would take 1 Timothy 2:9 and also 2 Peter 3:3 quite literally, and believe that he is implying all jewelry when he says about adorning, “not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.” One thing I noted is that the Babylonish harlot in Revelation 17:4 is “arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls.” 1 Corinthians 6:15 says, “Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.” The harlot is a figure of the World. Romans 12:2 says, “And be not conformed to this world:”, and there are the verses in 1 John 2:15, 16 too. My big question is, What is the motive behind wearing jewelry? We are the temple of the Holy Ghost; we are not our own but Christ’s, and we are to live wholly for Him. Are we living and acting in a way that brings glory to God… or ourselves? 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20

I was also going to mention, some of those verses and examples you mentioned were from the Old Testament. When Jesus came, He changed some of those things, for example polygamy, nonresistance, divorce and remarriage etc., and I think this subject is also one thing that changed with the New Testament.

  4. Earrings are absolutely fine. I got my ears pierced four or five years ago and have never regretted it.
I just love wearing dangly earrings that go along with my outfits! It's super fun. :) And contrary to what another commenter said above, you do not have to wear them every day or else the holes begin to close over. To begin with after they are newly pierced, yes you do, but not after a few months.
I could easily go a week without wearing any earrings now and the holes are still fine! :) It depends.

You should get your ears pierced! it's really exciting. :)

    1. Thank you so much for your opinion Bonnie! I don't think they would close up, except for in the first 6 or so weeks. My Mom didn't wear her earrings for over 2 years and they didn't close up!!
      Thanks again for your support!!

  5. I really appreciated your study, Paige! I'm blessed by how open you are. When I was six months old, Mom had my ears pierced. I wore earrings until I was seven or so, then we started dressing "plain", so Mom and I quit wearing them. I've never wore them since. First, because I just did what Mom told me to do. Later, as I grew older, I chose not to wear them because I knew that I wouldn't be able to handle it. If I (me personally) allowed myself to wear earrings, I knew it could eventually lead me into other things I didn't want to do, and because I felt the Lord calling me to give up that kind of "being pretty." I'm not at all saying this is how you should be, or anything! I know jewelry in general is a controversial subject among Christians. I would definitely say that this is a personal conviction that each of us needs to decide on our own. So, whether you get earnings or not, I'll still love you and be your friend just the same as always. :)

Okay, it's nice when I read other comments and that is how I wanted to sound in my own comment! Even though we don't dress "plain", it's still an aspect about the jewelry part of things! :) I totally agree with the still be friends ... As Christians, even though we might think someone is doing wrong, continuing to be their friends is a godly thing to do. Getting pierced ears isn't doing wrong, but I think you know what I mean. :)

  6. Thanks for sharing your studies with us! I have never had my ears pierced, though I have been given a couple of pairs of earrings. This is partly because I was also questioning if it was 100% right and partly because I forget (and feel too busy for the initial upkeep). Your study was encouraging to me! I definitely wear jewelry, and take the I Timothy verse to mean that we should be more concerned with inward godliness than outward beauty.

  7. I really appreciate your attitude about this, Paige! It's great that you want to make sure you're following the Bible, rather than making decisions based on anything else!

I think the most important things in a situation like this where the Bible doesn't say definitely (I mean there are no 'thou shalts' or 'thou shalt nots') is openness to God's leading and your motivation. If we have a relationship with Him, I believe He'll lead us into the right path. And I can see that you are definitely wanting to do what God wants! And then motivation can make a huge difference as well. For example I might wear a hair accessory because it's nice and complements my outfit. But then I could wear the same accessory because I want to show off and attract attention, which I believe is not right. I should be wanting to direct others attention to Jesus, not to myself! And it can go either way with anything we wear - clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc.

So, those are my thoughts on the subject! But again, I think it's really mature of you to study into these things, and consult your parents. Blessings on whatever your final decision is! :)
